Ah yes, the most important question of all, what length does my hair need to be?! Though it’s affected by many things, for most of us, our hair grows an average on .5 inches a month.  While most styles can be accomplished with medium length hair, it’s safe to say most of us picture ourselves with long Princess Jasmine styled hair flowing down our backs as we walk down the aisle. As elegant as it sounds there are some things to consider before deciding that super long hair is the route you should take. For example, hair type, if your hair is really thick it could potentially add a lot of unwanted weight to your style and have you reaching for the Advil before the first dance. If your hair is fine you run the risk of the extra length causing flatness (the enemy). One thing is certain, a healthy hair regimen is going to make a world of difference. While you’ll still want to get trims every few months, there are some things you’ll have to stop doing right now in order to gain length.

  • Not brushing your hair: Brushing creates weak spots that will break and cause you to lose any length you’ve gained. A hard habit to get used to, but after a month you’ll notice a huge difference in your hair from using a wide tooth comb instead.

  • Toning it down: if bleach blond is your thing, you already know how hard it is to get it to grow. Talk to your stylist about going one or two levels darker so it will be easy to brighten back up for the big day, but also gives your hair a break at the root, which is exactly what you need if extensions are in your future.

  • Last, but not least, at home conditioning treatments: There’s nothing I recommend more than 7 Seconds by Unite. A light weight leave in and the only product I trust to get actual results. Building the protein back up in your hair, not using products that just coat the surface and actually cause more damage, is the key to length. You can use this as an overnight treatment to be rinsed out in the morning (not recommended for silk sheets) and as an everyday leave in.

So now the decision is up to you, maintain or grow?
